Target Information
Ku80 is the 80-kDa subunit of the Ku heterodimer, also known as ATP-dependent DNA helicase II or DNA repair protein XRCC5. It acts as the DNA-binding component of DNA-dependent protein kinase, functioning with the DNA ligase IV–XRCC4 complex in double-strand break repair and V(D)J recombination.
This gene complements the Chinese hamster xrs-6 mutant defective in DNA repair and recombination. A rare microsatellite polymorphism in Ku80 is associated with cancer and varying radiosensitivity.
