Product Specific Information
- 1 µg/mL of MA5-45597 detects Brevican in 20 µg of rat brain lysate by colorimetric immunoblot using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as secondary antibody.
- Detects approximately 140 kDa (and smaller fragments due to proteolytic cleavage).
- Formerly sold as clone S294A-6.
Target Information
Brevican is the most abundant chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan in the extracellular matrix of the adult brain. It belongs to the lectican family of aggregating ECM proteoglycans bearing chondroitin sulfate (CS) chains. Highly expressed in the central nervous system, Brevican contributes to synapse stabilization and inhibition of neural plasticity. It is secreted by astrocytes and neurons as a 145 kDa core protein with or without CS chains. Cleavage by ADAMTS enzymes produces a 55 kDa N-terminal fragment containing the unique C-terminal epitope EAMESE.
