Target Information
GFAP (Glial fibrillary acidic protein)은 class III intermediate filament 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, 주로 중추신경계의 성상교세포(astrocyte) 및 특정 astroglia에서 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 말초신경계의 위성세포(satellite cells)와 비수초성 슈반세포(non-myelinating Schwann cells)에서도 발현됩니다.
GFAP는 신경줄기세포의 마커로 유용하며, 다양한 뇌종양(astrocytic cell 유래)에서도 강하게 발현됩니다. 또한 수정체 상피, 간의 Kupffer 세포, 일부 타액선 종양 세포, 적혈구에서도 보고된 바 있습니다.
GFAP 항체는 발달 과정 중 astrocyte를 다른 교세포로부터 구분하는데 사용되며, GFAP 유전자의 변이는 Alexander disease라는 희귀한 신경교세포 질환을 유발합니다. GFAP 유전자의 대체 스플라이싱은 여러 이소폼을 생성합니다.
