Product Specific Information
This antibody reacts with soluble beta2-microglobulin (Beta2M), a 12 kDa Ig-like glycoprotein expressed on lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial cells, and epithelial cells. It is absent on erythrocytes.
It does not cross-react with mouse, rabbit, canine, chicken, or bovine.
Target Information
Beta-2-microglobulin (B2M) is a 12–14 kDa protein that forms part of the MHC class I complex. It is expressed on various cell types including lymphocytes, thymocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, platelets, endothelial, and epithelial cells but is absent on erythrocytes.
It is also found freely in plasma and has structural homology to immunoglobulin constant regions with a predominantly beta-pleated sheet structure.
B2M is involved in antigen processing and presentation, TCR signaling, and downstream pathways in naïve CD8+ cells.
The B2M gene is located on chromosome 15; mutations can cause hypercatabolic hypoproteinemia.
Beta-2-microglobulin levels are used as a marker for renal function and as a prognostic indicator in HIV infection.
