Target Information
P2rx6 encodes receptors that are members of the ligand-gated ion channel family that open in response to extracellular ATP. Each P2rx6 receptor is composed of a trimer of subunits (P2X1–7), all sharing two transmembrane domains. The encoded protein mediates rapid and selective permeability to cations and is predominantly expressed in skeletal muscle. It is regulated by p53 and associated with VE-cadherin at adherens junctions in human umbilical vein endothelial cells. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
