Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It serves as a marker for hematopoietic stem cells, with reversible expression depending on developmental state. CD34 may function as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic and progenitor cells.
It is proposed to mediate stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and to act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans, facilitating interactions with lectins and selectins. The intracellular domain of CD34 can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. Dysregulation of CD34 is associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
