Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes. It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis, and mediates uptake of oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells. CD36 functions as a receptor for thrombospondin and collagen, contributing to platelet adhesion and malaria parasite cytoadherence. Mutations can lead to platelet glycoprotein deficiency and are associated with coronary heart disease.
