Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on various stem cell populations. It serves as a hematopoietic stem cell marker, with reversible expression in human cells. CD34 functions as a surface receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation regulation of hematopoietic stem cells and progenitors. It may mediate attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and act as a scaffold for glycans, facilitating interactions with lectins. CD34 also presents carbohydrate ligands to selectins and is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. Dysfunction of CD34 has been associated with dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
