Background
This gene encodes a transcription factor belonging to the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) family. It regulates genes containing antioxidant response elements (ARE) in their promoters, many of which encode proteins involved in responses to injury and inflammation including free radical production. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been characterized for this gene.
