This antibody specifically recognizes human MUC1.
The alpha subunit of MUC1 has adhesive and anti-adhesive properties, forming a protective layer on epithelial cells against bacterial and enzymatic attack.
The beta subunit contains a C-terminal domain involved in cell signaling through phosphorylation and protein-protein interactions, modulating ERK, SRC, and NF-κB pathways.
In activated T-cells, MUC1 influences the Ras/MAPK pathway and promotes tumor progression.
It regulates TP53-mediated transcription and affects cell fate under genotoxic stress, binding with KLF4 to repress TP53 activity.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large transmembrane mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages.
It undergoes extensive O-linked glycosylation and proteolytic processing, resulting in polymorphic variants with 30–90 tandem repeats, leading to variable molecular weights.
MUC1 is highly expressed in >90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
Transgenic MUC1 associates with all four erbB receptors and localizes with EGFR (erbB1) in lactating glands.
The MUC1 gene has seven exons and multiple alternatively spliced variants.
Overexpression and aberrant glycosylation are linked to carcinogenesis.
