This antibody binds to MUC1, a tumor-associated antigen expressed on many breast cancer cells.
It does not show reactivity towards fibroblasts, lymphoblastoid cells, or epithelial cell lines of non-breast origin.
Recognizes the PDTR epitope of mucin.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic lineages.
It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large extracellular domain containing numerous O-linked glycans that are heavily sialylated.
MUC1 is polymorphic, with alleles encoding 30–90 tandem repeats, leading to variable molecular weights.
It is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases.
Overexpression and altered glycosylation are associated with carcinoma progression.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, producing different isoforms.
