Product Specific Information

This antibody is specific for the PAM4 domain of the human MUC1 protein.

Target Information

MUC1 (Mucin 1, Episialin, MAM-6, CA 15-3, PEM, and EMA) is a large cell surface mucin glycoprotein expressed by most glandular and ductal epithelial cells and some hematopoietic cell lineages. It is a transmembrane glycoprotein with a large mucin-like extracellular domain that undergoes proteolysis and extensive O-linked glycosylation. MUC1 is highly polymorphic, with alleles encoding 30–90 tandem repeats, leading to significant molecular weight variation. It is abundantly expressed in over 90% of breast carcinomas and metastases. Overexpression, aberrant localization, and altered glycosylation of MUC1 are associated with carcinomas. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist, encoding different isoforms.
