Target Information

Rho-like GTPases are involved in various cellular processes and are activated by GTP binding and inactivated by GTP hydrolysis. Guanine nucleotide exchange factors (GEFs) promote this process by catalyzing the release of GDP.
The ARHGEF3 gene encodes a GEF that specifically activates RHOA and RHOB, both important in bone cell biology. Genetic variation in this gene has been linked to bone mineral density (BMD) and postmenopausal osteoporosis. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
