Product Specific Information
A 1:500 dilution of MA5-45934 was sufficient for detection of Tau in 10 µg Baculovirus by dot blot analysis using Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody. Detects approximately 79 kDa.
Target Information
Tau is a neuronal microtubule-associated protein found predominantly on axons. It promotes tubulin polymerization and stabilizes microtubules. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, functioning as a linker between both. Hyper-phosphorylated Tau is the major component of paired helical filaments (PHF), the building block of neurofibrillary lesions in Alzheimer’s disease. Numerous kinases phosphorylate Tau, including GSK-3β, PKA, cdk5, and casein kinase II. Hyper-phosphorylated Tau is also found in other neurodegenerative disorders such as Pick’s disease, frontotemporal dementia, and progressive supranuclear palsy.
