Product Specific Information

Description:
The OX8 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD8 alpha, a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily that forms heterodimers with CD8 beta to create the CD8 antigen. CD8 is expressed on CD4+CD8+ thymocytes, most MHC class I-restricted T cells, and some macrophages. It binds to MHC class I molecules on antigen-presenting cells and participates in T-cell receptor signal transduction via Lck association.

• Immunohistology staining of frozen and paraffin-embedded sections
• Functional assays (use Functional Grade purified OX8, Product #16-0084)

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of rat splenocytes. Recommended ≤1 µg/test in 100 µL final volume. Optimize titration for best results.
Cell number range: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

Cluster of differentiation 8 (CD8) is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein involved in T-cell activation and signal transduction. It functions as a co-receptor for MHC class I molecules and is primarily expressed on cytotoxic T cells, NK cells, monocytes, and dendritic cells. CD8α is essential for MHC-I binding and contributes to CTL activation and pathogen/tumor clearance. Differentiation of CD8+ T cells into CTLs is enhanced by IL-2, IL-12, and TGF-β1.
