ROR gamma는 ROR/RZR orphan nuclear receptor 계열에 속하는 560개 아미노산 DNA 결합 전사 인자로, 림프 기관 형성(림프절 및 페이어판)에 필수적인 역할을 하는 것으로 보고됩니다. 또한 ROR gamma는 thymopoiesis 동안의 apoptosis 조절에 관여하며, Fas ligand와 IL2의 발현을 억제하고 염증성 IL-17+ T helper 세포의 분화 프로그램을 유도합니다.
ROR gamma는 RORA 및 RORB와 50~51%의 서열 동일성을 공유하며, 마우스 ROR gamma와 88% 동일합니다. 주로 골격근에서 높은 수준으로 발현되며, 다른 조직에서는 낮은 수준으로 발현됩니다.
