Target Information
ROR gamma (RAR-related Orphan Receptor C, RORC) is a 560 amino acid DNA-binding transcription factor belonging to the ROR/RZR orphan nuclear receptor subfamily. It functions as a ligand-activated transcription factor essential for lymphoid organogenesis (lymph nodes and Peyer’s patches) and plays a regulatory role in apoptosis during thymopoiesis. ROR gamma inhibits Fas ligand and IL2 expression and directs differentiation of proinflammatory IL-17+ T helper cells. It shares 50–51% sequence identity with RORA and RORB and 88% identity with mouse ROR gamma. Expression is high in skeletal muscle and lower in other tissues.
