Target Information

Nitric oxide (NO) is an inorganic, gaseous free radical that mediates various intercellular signals such as vasorelaxation, neurotransmission, and cytotoxicity. NO production is catalyzed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS), which converts L-arginine to L-citrulline and NO.
Three NOS isoforms have been identified:

  • nNOS (type I): neuronal NOS
  • iNOS (type II): inducible NOS
  • eNOS (type III): endothelial NOS

All NOS isoforms contain calmodulin, NADPH, FAD, and FMN binding domains.
