Product Specific Information

This antibody detects endogenous levels of NMDAR2B only when phosphorylated at Tyrosine 1474.

Target Information

NMDAR2B is a member of the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) class of ionotropic glutamate receptors. NMDA receptors (NMDAR) are involved in long-term potentiation, an activity-dependent increase in synaptic transmission efficiency related to memory and learning.
NMDARs play a key role in neuronal development and have been implicated in several CNS disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, epilepsy, and ischemic neuronal cell death. Overexpression of the NR2B subunit is associated with enhanced learning and memory, whereas reduced NR2B expression is observed in aged, memory-impaired animals.
Phosphorylation at Tyr1472 on NR2B may increase NMDAR expression at the synapse, contributing to synaptic plasticity. NMDAR2B forms a heterotrimer with subunits NR1, NR2, and NR3. Dysfunctions of NMDAR2B are linked to epileptic encephalopathy and autosomal dominant mental retardation.
