Target Information
UBA2 participates in protein conjugation processes such as SUMOylation, a posttranslational modification similar to ubiquitination. SUMO proteins (SUMO-1, SUMO-2, SUMO-3) are involved in stabilizing target proteins and their localization within subcellular complexes. The SUMO conjugation pathway requires coordinated action of the E1-activating enzyme SAE1/SAE2, the E2-conjugating enzyme Ubc9, and an E3-like SUMO ligase.
