Target Information
SPP24, also known as secreted phosphoprotein 2, is a 211 amino acid secreted protein belonging to the cystatin superfamily. It is expressed in liver and plasma and may play a role in bone turnover. The SPP24 gene is located on human chromosome 2, which comprises about 8% of the human genome and encodes over 1,400 genes. Several genetic disorders are linked to genes on chromosome 2, including Harlequin ichthyosis (ABCA12 gene), sitosterolemia (ABCG5 and ABCG8 genes), and Alström syndrome (ALMS1 gene). Chromosome 2 is thought to have arisen from an ancient fusion of two ancestral chromosomes, as evidenced by vestigial centromeric and telomeric regions.
