Target Information
Cytokeratins are a group comprising at least 29 different proteins, characteristic of epithelial and trichocytic cells. Cytokeratin 5, 6, and 8 are members of the type II neutral-to-basic subfamily. Monoclonal antibodies to cytokeratins serve as specific markers for epithelial cell differentiation and are widely used in tumor identification and classification. PCK-26 facilitates typing of normal, metaplastic, and neoplastic cells, aiding in discrimination of carcinomas and non-epithelial tumors such as sarcomas, lymphomas, and neural tumors. It is also useful for detecting micrometastases and determining the origin of poorly differentiated tumors.
