TNRC6A는 trinucleotide repeat containing 6 단백질 패밀리에 속하며, RNA interference (RNAi) 및 microRNA 경로를 통한 전사 후 유전자 침묵(post-transcriptional gene silencing)에 관여합니다. 이 단백질은 messenger RNA 및 Argonaute 단백질과 결합하여 GW-bodies 또는 P-bodies로 알려진 세포질 구조 내에서 작용합니다.
