Target Information
HAAO (3-Hydroxyanthranilate 3,4-dioxygenase)는 non-heme ferrous iron을 포함한 intracellular dioxygenase 계열의 단백질로, tryptophan 대사에 관여합니다. 간과 신장 등 말초 기관에 널리 분포하며, 중추신경계에는 낮은 수준으로 존재합니다.
이 효소는 3-hydroxyanthranilic acid로부터 excitotoxin인 quinolinic acid (QUIN)을 합성하며, QUIN은 NMDA 수용체 활성화를 통해 신경독성을 유발합니다.
QUIN의 증가된 뇌 수준은 신경학적 및 염증성 질환의 병태생리에 관련될 수 있으며, HAAO는 이러한 질환에서 생체표지자로서의 가능성이 제시되었습니다. 최근 연구에서는 HAAO가 난소암 검출을 위한 유망한 바이오마커로 보고되었습니다.
