Target Information
The HAND2 protein belongs to the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. It is one of two closely related HAND proteins that are asymmetrically expressed in developing ventricular chambers and play an essential role in cardiac morphogenesis. HAND2 functions in the formation of the right ventricle and aortic arch arteries, implicating it in congenital heart disease. Additionally, this transcription factor is important in limb and branchial arch development.
