Target Information
MMP13 (collagenase 3) plays a role in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins including fibrillar collagen, fibronectin, TNC, and ACAN.
It cleaves triple helical collagens (types I, II, and III), showing highest activity with soluble type II collagen.
MMP13 can degrade collagen types IV, XIV, and X, and is involved in wound healing, tissue remodeling, cartilage degradation, bone development, and ossification.
Mutations in MMP13 are associated with spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Missouri type, metaphyseal anadysplasia 1, and metaphyseal dysplasia Sphar type.
