Target Information
MMP13 (collagenase 3) is involved in the degradation of extracellular matrix proteins including fibrillar collagen, fibronectin, TNC, and ACAN.
It cleaves triple helical collagens (types I, II, III) with highest activity on soluble type II collagen, and can degrade collagen types IV, XIV, and X.
MMP13 plays roles in wound healing, tissue remodeling, cartilage degradation, bone development, mineralization, and ossification.
It is essential for normal embryonic bone development and ossification.
Mutations can lead to spondyloepimetaphyseal dysplasia Missouri type, metaphyseal anadysplasia 1, and metaphyseal dysplasia Sphar type.
