Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NeuroG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development.
It has dual cell-fate specification roles, functioning during neurogenesis and inhibiting differentiation of neural stem cells into astrocytes.
NeuroG1 promotes neurogenesis by acting as a transcriptional activator while inhibiting astrocyte differentiation through compartmentalization of the CREB-binding protein transcription complex and inhibition of STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
