Target Information
Neurogenin 1 (NeuroG1) is a basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factor involved in determining cell type during development. It plays dual roles in cell-fate specification—promoting neurogenesis while inhibiting astrocyte differentiation. NeuroG1 acts as a transcriptional activator for neurogenesis and suppresses astrocyte differentiation by compartmentalizing the CREB-binding protein complex and inhibiting STAT transcription factors essential for gliogenesis.
