Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of CD18 antigen (integrin beta2 subunit), a 95 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
This antibody does not cross-react with canine.
Target Information
CD18 integrin beta 2 subunit is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes. CD18 combines with integrin molecules CD11a–CD11d to form heterodimers at the cell surface, participating in cell adhesion and signaling.
CD18 forms heterodimers with:
- CD11a/CD18 (LFA-1)
- CD11b/CD18 (Mac-1, CR3)
- CD11c/CD18
- CD11d/CD18
These β2 integrins are essential for leukocyte migration and intercellular contact.
Defects in CD18 cause leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1).
CD18 is also targeted by Mannheimia haemolytica leukotoxin, mediating cytolysis.
Two transcript variants encoding CD18 protein have been identified.
