Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes an extracellular epitope of the CD18 antigen (integrin beta2 subunit; beta2 integrin), a 95 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
This antibody will not cross-react with canine.
Target Information
CD18 integrin beta 2 subunit is a 90 kDa type I transmembrane protein expressed on all leukocytes.
CD18 can combine with integrin molecules CD11a–c to form heterodimers at the cell surface, participating in cell adhesion and signaling.
These heterodimers include:
- αLβ2 (CD11a/CD18, LFA-1)
- αMβ2 (CD11b/CD18, Mac-1, CR3)
- αXβ2 (CD11c/CD18)
- αDβ2 (CD11d/CD18)
These integrins are essential for proper leukocyte migration and intercellular contact.
Deficiency in CD18 leads to leukocyte adhesion deficiency type I (LAD1).
CD18 is also a target of Mannheimia haemolytica leukotoxin, mediating leukotoxin-induced cytolysis.
Two transcript variants encoding the CD18 protein have been identified.
