Product Specific Information
- Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration.
- For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below.
- Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing.
- Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
- Stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid.
- Dilute only prior to immediate use.
Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-goat serum, purified and partially purified Glutamine Synthetase (Microbial).
Cross-reactivity against Glutamine Synthetase from other sources is unknown.
Target Information
Glutamine synthetase is part of the glutamine synthetase family. Ammonia incorporation in animals occurs through the actions of glutamate dehydrogenase and glutamine synthetase.
Glutamate plays a central role in mammalian nitrogen flow, serving as both a nitrogen donor and acceptor. It also regulates neurotransmitter glutamate metabolism.
Because of the multiple functions and importance of GS in cellular metabolism, both catalytic activity and synthesis are highly regulated.
Its activity is controlled by adenylylation and is decreased in the cerebral cortex of brains affected by Alzheimer’s disease, particularly near senile plaques.
Activity is also reduced under glucose deprivation.
