Assay by immunoelectrophoresis resulted in a single precipitin arc against anti-goat serum, purified and partially purified Acetyl Cholinesterase (Bovine Erythrocytes). Cross-reactivity against Acetyl Cholinesterase from other sources is unknown.

Target Information

Acetylcholinesterase hydrolyzes the neurotransmitter acetylcholine at neuromuscular junctions and brain cholinergic synapses, thereby terminating signal transmission. The protein is also found on red blood cell membranes, where it constitutes the Yt blood group antigen.
Acetylcholinesterase exists in multiple molecular forms with similar catalytic properties but differing in oligomeric assembly and cell surface attachment. The major form found in brain, muscle, and other tissues is hydrophilic and forms disulfide-linked oligomers with collagenous or lipid-containing structural subunits.
