Target Information

CD14 is a 55 kDa GPI-anchored glycoprotein expressed on mature monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It functions as a lipopolysaccharide receptor and exists both as a membrane-bound and soluble form. CD14 binds LPS via lipopolysaccharide-binding protein (LBP), playing a role in immune response modulation. It can also bind apoptotic cells and influence allergic, inflammatory, and infectious processes. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants encoding the same CD14 isoform. Diseases associated with CD14 dysfunction include Mycobacterium chelonae infection and croup.
