This antibody recognizes antigen both in the presence and absence of Ca²⁺ (including samples containing EDTA).
Target Information
C-reactive protein (CRP) is a major cyclic, pentameric acute phase protein consisting of five identical, noncovalently bound, nonglycosylated subunits. Each subunit has 206 amino acids and a molecular weight of approximately 24 kDa.
CRP is synthesized by the liver and its plasma concentration increases markedly during inflammation. It initiates the classical complement cascade, binds to nuclear components such as chromatin and histones, and plays a key role in innate immunity.
CRP acts as an opsonin, activates monocytes/macrophages, and functions as a scavenger during cell necrosis. Elevated CRP levels are associated with increased risk of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.
