Target Information

CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein with a molecular weight range of 111–115 kDa, expressed on various stem cell populations. It serves as a marker for hematopoietic stem cells, though its expression is reversible. CD34 may function as a receptor involved in receptor-mediated endocytosis, regulating adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic and progenitor cells. It is also considered an adhesion molecule facilitating stem cell attachment to the bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells. Additionally, CD34 may act as a scaffold for lineage-specific glycans, enabling interactions with lectins on stromal or marrow cells. The intracellular domain of CD34 can be phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction has been associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
