Target Information
The PATZ1 protein contains an A-T hook DNA binding motif that interacts with other DNA-binding structures, playing a key role in chromatin modeling and transcription regulation. Its POZ domain mediates protein-protein interactions essential for transcriptional repression, while zinc-finger regions form the DNA-binding domain. PATZ1 acts as a transcriptional repressor. In small round cell sarcoma, PATZ1 is fused to EWS through an inversion on chromosome 22q, forming a chimeric protein (t(1;22)(p36.1;q12)) that combines the transactivation domain of EWS with the zinc-finger domain of PATZ1. Four alternatively spliced transcript variants are known.
