Product Specific Information
The XMG1.2 antibody reacts with mouse interferon (IFN) gamma and functions as a neutralizing antibody. IFN gamma (~20 kDa) is produced by activated T, B, and NK cells and exhibits antiviral and antiparasitic activity. It synergizes with cytokines such as TNF alpha to inhibit proliferation of various cell types. Glycosylation does not affect its biological activity.
Applications Reported:
This antibody is suitable for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.
Internal Testing Notes:
Alexa Fluor 561 non-specifically stains B cells in Swiss Webster and SJL mice but not in BALB/c or C57BL/6 strains.
Applications Tested:
Tested by intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis of stimulated mouse splenocytes using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product #88-8824-00) and standard protocols (Flow Protocols).
Recommended usage: ≤0.06 µg per test (100 µL final volume).

Target Information
IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor produced mainly by T lymphocytes and NK cells in response to various stimuli. It is a dimeric glycoprotein (~45 kDa) composed of two 146 amino acid subunits. IFN gamma exhibits species-specific biological activity and plays roles in antiviral defense, tumor suppression, MHC induction, macrophage activation, and immunoglobulin secretion enhancement. Activation occurs via the IFN gamma receptor I/II complex and the JAK-STAT pathway. Human IFN gamma shares ~40% sequence homology with mouse IFN gamma.
