Product Specific Information

The XMG1.2 antibody reacts with mouse interferon (IFN) gamma, a 20 kDa cytokine produced by activated T, B, and NK cells with antiviral and antiparasitic activity.
This antibody is neutralizing and suitable for intracellular staining followed by flow cytometric analysis.

  • Alexa Fluor 561 may cause non-specific staining in Swiss Webster and SJL mice, but not in BALB/c or C57BL/6 strains.
  • Tested using stimulated mouse splenocytes with the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product # 88-8824-00).
  • Recommended usage: ≤ 0.06 µg per test in 100 µL final volume.
  • Excitation: 558 nm / Emission: 575 nm (Yellow-Green Laser)
  • Designed for use on spectral cytometers, multiplexable with PE and PE-eFluor 610.

Target Information

IFN gamma (Interferon gamma, Type II interferon) is a macrophage activation factor primarily produced by T-lymphocytes and NK cells in response to antigens and cytokines.
It functions as a homodimer (~45 kDa) glycoprotein and shows species-specific activity (no cross-reactivity between human and mouse IFNγ).

Key functions include:

  • Antiviral and antiproliferative activity
  • Induction of MHC class I and II expression
  • Macrophage activation
  • Enhanced immunoglobulin secretion by B cells

IFNγ acts via IFNγ receptor I/II and activates the JAK-STAT pathway. Expression is upregulated by IL-2, FGF basic, EGF, and downregulated by vitamin D3 or DMN.
Mutations in the IFNγ gene are associated with aplastic anemia.
