Description:
The OX35 monoclonal antibody reacts with rat CD4. CD4 is a co-receptor participating in T cell receptor signaling by binding MHC class II on antigen-presenting cells. It is expressed in thymus by CD4⁺CD8⁺ double-positive and CD4⁺ single-positive thymocytes, and by CD4⁺ helper T cells in the periphery. CD4 is a membrane glycoprotein with four extracellular immunoglobulin-like domains.

Reported for use in flow cytometric analysis.

Applications Tested:
Tested by flow cytometric analysis of rat splenocytes. Recommended ≤ 0.25 µg/test (in 100 µL final volume). Optimal cell number: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test. Titrate for best performance.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper lymphocytes, and also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of brain and gut. CD4 assists in T-cell activation via association with the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
