Product Specific Information

The SK3 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD4, a 59-kDa cell surface receptor expressed by most thymocytes, a subset of mature T helper cells, and at low levels by monocytes. CD4 serves as a receptor for HIV. SK3 blocks HIV binding and mixed lymphocyte reactions. The SK3 and RPA-T4 monoclonal antibodies recognize distinct epitopes.

Target Information

CD4 antigen is involved in MHC class II recognition and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. It is primarily expressed in T helper cells but also found in monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. CD4 expression is detectable in thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain non-lymphoid tissues. It contributes to T-cell activation via interaction with the T-cell receptor complex and Lck kinase. CD4 may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-related CNS diseases.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
