Target Information
CD204 gene encodes the class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three types (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are implicated in physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
Isoforms 1 and 2 mediate endocytosis of modified LDLs, while isoform 3 lacks this function due to altered intracellular processing and retention in the endoplasmic reticulum. Isoform 3 can inhibit isoforms 1 and 2, suggesting a regulatory mechanism for scavenger receptor activity in macrophages.
Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
