Target Information
SMAD2 (also known as MADH2, MAD2) regulates multiple cellular processes such as cell proliferation, apoptosis, and differentiation.
It interacts with TGF-beta receptors via the SMAD anchor for receptor activation, a central event in TGF-beta signaling.
Phosphorylation of SMAD2 enhances transcriptional activity, and upon TGF-beta stimulation, SMAD2 associates with SMAD4 to translocate into the nucleus and regulate gene expression.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding SMAD2 have been observed.
