Target Information
The membrane-associated protein encoded by this gene is a member of the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter superfamily. ABC proteins transport various molecules across cellular membranes. This protein belongs to the MDR/TAP subfamily involved in multidrug resistance. It functions as an ATP-dependent drug efflux pump with broad substrate specificity, contributing to decreased drug accumulation in resistant cells and mediating resistance to anticancer drugs. It also acts as a transporter in the blood-brain barrier.
