Product Specific Information
Store vial at 4°C prior to restoration. For extended storage, aliquot contents and freeze at -20°C or below. Avoid cycles of freezing and thawing. Centrifuge product if not completely clear after standing at room temperature.
This product is stable for several weeks at 4°C as an undiluted liquid. Dilute only prior to immediate use.
This antibody is specific for Borrelia burgdorferi CRASP-1 protein.
BLAST analysis suggests reactivity with CRASP-1 from B. burgdorferi and B. garinii (100% homology), and partial cross-reactivity with B. spielmanii, B. afzelii, and B. valaisiana (98% homology).
Cross-reactivity with CRASP-1 from other sources has not been determined.
Target Information
CRASP-1 (Complement Regulator-Acquiring Surface Protein 1) is a multifunctional protein of Lyme disease-causing Borrelia burgdorferi.
It binds several human extracellular matrix proteins and plasminogen, including factor H, resulting in inhibition of complement activation.
These interactions contribute to adhesion, bacterial colonization, and dissemination within the host.
Borrelia spirochetes express up to five complement regulator-acquiring surface proteins. Multiple analogous CRASP-1 gene sequences are detected in Borrelia plasmids, which may repeat or contain fragments of other genes.
Such plasmid regions may provide adaptive advantages for survival across multiple environments during the bacterial life cycle.
The CRASP-1 sequence also contains a repeated stem-loop structure typical of RNA genes.
