MA1-12626 detects Progesterone Receptor in human, equine, and porcine samples.
It has been successfully used in immunofluorescence, immunoprecipitation, western blot, and immunohistochemistry (paraffin, frozen) procedures.
The immunogen is human endometrial carcinoma from in athymic mice.
Target Information
The progesterone receptor (PR) is a member of the steroid family of nuclear receptors. It mediates the physiological effects of progesterone, which plays a central role in reproductive events associated with pregnancy.
PR exists as a 94 kDa protein (Form A) or a 120 kDa protein (Form B), resulting from alternative translation initiation sites. PR-B is transcriptionally active and regulates genes for endometrium maintenance, pregnancy, and ovulation inhibition.
PR-A differs from PR-B by a 165 amino acid deletion at the N-terminus, exposing an inhibitory domain that represses steroid hormone transcriptional activity.
Upon progesterone binding, the receptor undergoes conformational change, dimerizes, and binds to progesterone response elements (PRE), activating transcription.
Mutations in the PGR gene can lead to reproductive abnormalities.
