이 단백질은 세포주기 진행의 중요한 조절자이며, cyclin E- 및 cyclin A-CDK2 복합체의 강력한 억제제입니다.
또한 cyclin D-CDK4 복합체와 결합하여 복합체의 조립, 안정성 및 활성 조절에 관여합니다.
p27 Kip1은 인산화 상태 및 화학량에 따라 cyclin D-CDK4 복합체의 억제자 또는 활성자로 작용할 수 있습니다.
약 27 kDa의 분자량을 가지며, CDK 의존적 인산화 및 SCF 복합체에 의한 유비퀴틴화를 통해 분해되어 세포가 휴면 상태에서 증식 상태로 전환하는 데 필요합니다.
