Target Information
Potassium channels are ubiquitously expressed proteins serving numerous functions in excitable and non-excitable cells.
The large conductance, calcium-activated potassium channel (Maxi K+) is activated by both intracellular calcium increase and membrane depolarization.
Its structure includes a voltage sensor and intracellular calcium-binding domain.
In vascular smooth muscle, a beta-subunit is found in a 1:1 stoichiometry, decreasing the calcium concentration required to open the pore by 5–10 fold.
