Product Specific Information
- Specificity: T21/8 antibody binds with high affinity to a CCR5 N-terminal epitope.
- CCR5 is a receptor for several inflammatory CC-chemokines, including CCL3 (MIP-1α), CCL4 (MIP-1β), and RANTES.
Target Information
Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and related viruses require coreceptors, in addition to CD4, to infect target cells.
CCR5, along with CXCR4, CCR3, CCR2b, and CCR8, acts as a coreceptor for macrophage- and dual-tropic HIV-1 strains.
CCR5 is essential for HIV-1, HIV-2, and SIV infection. Beta-chemokines such as RANTES, MIP-1α, and MIP-1β are natural ligands for CCR5 and can inhibit M-tropic HIV-1 infection.
CCR5 interacts with the CD4-gp120 complex of HIV, facilitating membrane fusion and viral entry into target cells.
CCR5 mRNA is expressed in lymphoid organs and monocytes.
