Target Information
The general transcription factor TFIIE plays an essential role in eukaryotic transcription initiation together with RNA polymerase II and other general transcription factors.
Human TFIIE consists of two subunits: TFIIE-alpha (57 kDa) and TFIIE-beta (34 kDa), joining the preinitiation complex after RNA polymerase II and TFIIF.
TFIIE-alpha is necessary for transcription initiation and can fully replace the natural subunit in vitro.
Its sequence includes structural motifs such as leucine repeat, zinc finger, and helix-turn-helix, showing similarity to bacterial sigma factors involved in transcription regulation.
